Ever bought the ink for your artist?
I need a particular type of ink - vegan. There a variety of brands that are vegan...the more well-known ones probably being Eternal and Stable. I've emailed local artists and they said they can't be 100% sure that their ink is vegan, so I'm considering offering to buy the bottle I need - it is a small tattoo and only one colour.
Can you see them having a problem with this? Anyone ever done it?
Some may have a problem with this and most will not allow it. I for certain will not do a tattoo with an ink a client brings in. That can cause problems. Not saying you are the type of person to something but there are some crazy folks out there are likely to bring a bottle of anything in that is intended to cause an infection and in turn end up suing the shop and/or artist. So most likely due to legal ramifications the artist will not allow to bring your own ink. But, he should have no problem with you preferring a certain brand of ink and him purchase the 1oz bottles just for your piece. It may cost a few extra bucks but not much. He can get these small 1oz bottles for about 5-10 bucks each.
As for your choice of ink I would go with Eternal. The same chemist that made stable a while back is the creator of Eternal. It has no glycerin in at all. The Stable ink has glycerin but it has vegi glycerin and they are considered vegan friendly although the new blacks, blues and browns from stable are not so vegan friendly.
I gave a very detailed answer to a question asked about vegan ink a couple of days ago. I was going to post a link to it here for you but YA! is acting screwy.
All in all Eternal is your best bet for vegan ink and it is an OK brand of ink.
